Echo & The Bunnymen 'Meteorites' Album Review

Echo & The Bunnymen are a band that I am constantly reminded of by my Dad. He saw them before they saw them before they were accelerated into musical success at a student bar in his teens and says to this day they it was one of the best gigs he’s ever witnessed, so I have always had them on a pedestal in my mind without ever diving too much into their back catalogue. I saw this new release as my time to explore this band, I am not disappointed. Echo & The Bunnymen bring a lot to the table with this 12th album. The first track is a lot slower than what you’re used to; a longer, slower more build up type of track, laced with strings, guitars and backing vocals it is a nice ride into the album, however perhaps could have sat better towards the end of the album. The gem for me on this album are ‘Lovers On The Run’ which from listening to their old material is very much of their early tracks, lively, energetic and flawlessly catchy. The album as a whole is well worth a listen, giving a mixed bag of a naturally evolved sound from the band, trying new things, and also sticking to their old guns.
